Anchialobefore it became Pomorie
Our name is not invented. It is what the town where we make our cosmetics was called for more than two thousand years — until the summer of 1934.

“Then, after Mesambria, comes Anchialo — a small town of the Apollonians.”Strabo, Geography, c. 7 BC
The town of salt in five dates
For the salt pans
Apollonia (today’s Sozopol) founds Anchialo to control the salt pans by the lake and the Gulf of Burgas. The name comes from Greek — Ἀγχίαλος, “by the sea”.
The Battle of Anchialus
By the river Achelous, not far from the town walls, the army of Tsar Simeon defeats the Byzantine forces. The name Anchialo enters Bulgarian history for ever.
Anchialo becomes Pomorie
By a special ministerial order the town receives its present name. The old one lives on in the coat of arms, in memories and — today — on our labels.
Lye in the toothpaste
After years of research into the healing properties of lye, the first oral care products with it appear. ANCHIALO toothpaste continues this tradition.
ANCHIALO
We make our cosmetics in a workshop on the shore of the salt lake of Pomorie — where salt and lye are still harvested the old way.

The salt pans in the early 20th century

The spa capital of the Balkans
The salt, the lye and the healing mud of the lake make Pomorie a place for rest, treatment and recovery. It is also home to the only Salt Museum in Eastern Europe — an open-air salt pan where salt is still harvested the old way.
Three things we never change
From here
The lye and the mud come from the salt pans of lakes Pomorie and Atanasovsko. We make the products on the lake shore.
Natural
A process that preserves the valuable qualities of the lye without adding harmful chemicals.
With memory
The black-and-white labels are not a fashion. They are our way of saying where we come from.
